Trinamool Congress leader Kirti Azad remarked on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clothing in Shillong, saying it is a women’s flowery dress. The BJP’s ST Morcha has filed a complaint against the TMC leader for his remark.
Kirti Azad’s post against PM Modi’s outfit, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was insulting to Meghalaya.
PM Modi recently visited Shillong, where he was seen donning a traditional Khasi attire while inaugurating many development projects. Kirti Azad, a former cricketer and Trinamool leader, commented on PM Modi’s outfit, saying that what he was wearing on the occasion was a woman’s garment. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the Trinamool politician of demeaning Meghalaya’s culture in response to the remark. The BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha also chastised the Trinamool politician for disrespecting tribals.
Kirti Azad stated he did not want to criticise the clothing and he was simply attempting to make a point on PM Modi’s ‘fashion statement’. The post was not removed. “Neither a man nor a woman. “Only a fashion worshipper,” Kirti Azad tweeted as he uploaded a photo of PM Modi’s traditional outfit juxtaposed with a snapshot from a website where the’multi-floral embroidered garment’ worn by a woman may be purchased. “Buy it here,” said the picture. Many social media users were quick to point out that the photograph had been edited. On the e-commerce site, the woman was wearing something different, and PM Modi’s clothing was photoshopped to ridicule him.
“It’s heartbreaking to witness how @KirtiAzaad is ridiculing Meghalayan culture and ethnic clothing. TMC must clarify their position on his ideas as soon as possible. Their silence would be seen as tacit endorsement, and the people will not forgive them “Himanta Biswa, the chief minister of Assam, said.
According to BJP Rajya Sabha MP Samir Oraon, if the Trinamool man is unaware, he should first understand that PM Modi was dressed in tribal clothing.
“You are disparaging tribal clothing by claiming that you are unsure if this is female or masculine apparel.
You and your party have a documented history of pathological animosity for tribals “The BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha stated that a complaint should be brought against Kirti Azad under the Indian Penal Code.
PM Modi opted to wear a traditional Khasi costume with a traditional Garo cap while visiting Shillong to lay the groundwork for several projects in Meghalaya valued 2,450 crores. Meghalaya’s three primary tribes are the Garos, Khasis, and Jayantias.
The Trinamool Congress leader’s ‘neither masculine nor female’ remark on PM Modi’s wardrobe ignites a debate; ‘Clarify…’
